Interesting quote in CIPD People Management from David Macleod who co authored the Department for Business Innovation & Skills  report into employee engagement [Engaging for Success]

“Any company that wants to encourage commitment has to inspire and support its people to help it take the next step. The simplest way to do this is to ensure open and honest dialogue so that people understand where the organisation is going, where they fit in and feel free to voice their views.

Leaders who ignore the warning signs risk throwing away the keys to their long term success”.

This echoes my own views about dialogue being the essential tool for engagement – it gets overlooked in favour of more 200 question engagement surveys and fairly pointless motivational events. Employers seem to find it hard to believe that something as simple and fundamental as talking and listening could be the solution!
